last night, i joined the bonfire event organized by some UK students

yeah, i'm not pretty sure about it.
but according to wiki and after some googling, this is what i can say about bonfire
BONFIRE
-legal outdoor fire used for disposing burnable waste material,
-celebratory bonfires are typically designed to burn quickly, and used to be very large.
-the meaning and objective of the event goes different to every country
eg :
UK - mark the failure of 5th Nov 1605 'Gunpowder Plot' , Catholic conspiration to destroy the House of Lords in London

India -
*PUNJAB: for festival of Lohri, people gather around a bonfire and eat peanuts and sweets
*ASSAM (northeastern part of India) : for harvest festival in mid January named 'Bhogali Bihu , as a mark that harvest season just end
*TAMIL nadu and MUMBAI : 'Bhogali Bihu' mark as the first day of farmer festival Pongal. they collect unwanted items and set them on fire in a bonfire to celebrae
Japan - marking the end of O-Bon season 'bon Odori' - as an appreciation and remembrance to their ancestors for their sacrifice
and even in Czech and Slovakia have this bonfire event
